Stakeholders’ Consultation Workshop on Loss and Damage

The 2nd stakeholders’ consultation workshop on loss and damage work programme for Bangladesh held in Dhaka on 30 June 2012. This workshop discussed diverse issues related to loss and damage in the context of climate change and delivered a set of policy recommendations for a work programme for Bangladesh and other LDCs. Study Sharing Seminar

CPRD, with the support of British High Commission, Dhaka, implemented a research project to examine the long term variability of the sea surface temperature over the Bay of Bengal, distribution and frequency of tropical cyclone including depressions, and their impact on the coastal fishing communities. The research findings have been shared in a national seminar on 16 July in Dhaka. Mr Mesbah ul Alam, Secretary, MoEF was the chief guest in the seminar, while Mr Nick Low, Deputy High Commissioner, the British High Commission, Dhaka and Mr Jorge Nieto, First Secretary, Delegation of the EU were present as special guests. Dr Seleemul Huq, Director, ICCCAD presided over the seminar.

National Workshop: Climate Summit for a Living Himalayas

CPRD, in association with the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) of the Government of Bangladesh, organized a national level workshop to develop country position and roadmap on the issues related to ‘Climate Summit for a Living Himalayas’ to be held in Bhutan later this year.

Mr. Monwarul Islam, ndc, Director General, Department of Environment, was the Chief Guest and Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Chairman PKSF presided over the workshop.

Workshop on Study Methodology

On CPRD organized an expert level workshop at the BRAC University conference room to re-visit and finalize the methodology for the study titled ‘causes and consequences of human displacement and migration from the climate hot-spots’. Dr Ainun Nishat, Vice Chancellor, BRAC University chaired the workshop while Md Shamsuddoha, Chief Executive, CPRD presented the study methodology for having expert feedback on the methodology proposed for the study.Experts from different government and non-government organizations took part in the discussion and expressed their views in finalizing the methodology; the discussants includes, S M Munjurul Hannan Khan, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Environment, University of Dhaka, Ms Ferdous Jahan and Ershadul Kader of BRAC University, Tanjir Hossain, Jahedul Haque and Azmarina Tanzir of ActionAid Bangladesh, Atiqul Haque, Forruq Rahman and Sabnam Sarmin of CPRD.

Regional Expert Group Consultative Workshop

In conaltnection with the ‘Climate Summit for a Living Himalayas 2011’ CPRD provided technical assistance to Ministry of Environment and Forests of the Government of Bangladesh in developing regional road map on water security. In this context, CPRD organized an Expert Group Consultative Meeting on Water Security at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel on 2 and 3 July 2011.
